SGIAN DUBHS & DIRKS (The "Biodag")...
THE ORIGINAL CONCEALED WEAPON !
1.) THE SGIAN DUBHS:
The words "Sgian Dubh" ( pronounced..skeen doo) are Gaelic
for "black" (dubh)... "dagger" (sgian), as invariably the handles
were carved of black bog oak. Normally this weapon of last
resort was concealed, only to be exhibited in the presence
of a host out of courtesy, usually in the sock where it
could be seen.
The Sgian Dubhs below have handles of either carved black wood
or simulated Stag Horn and are approximately 7 inches long. The
blades are steel. The "Horn" Sgian Dubhs have leather sheaths
and the carved wood Sgian Dubhs have poly sheaths.

2.) THE DIRKS:
Scottish Dirk

The Scottish were a proud group of warriors; proud of their heritage, proud of their clans, and proud of their weaponry. While the two-handed claymore and the baskethilt were two of the preferred battle weapons, the Scottish dirk (known as the Biodag in gaelic) was the weapon for everything else. Displayed proudly (unlike the much more hidden Sgian Dubh), the dirk was both a warning and a means of identification. The craftsmanship that went into these weapons was astounding.

Long and crossless (sometimes as long as 14 inches in length), these slim daggers were usually edged on only one side and could be wielded with great dexterity against opponents. These knives in the hands of a skilled highlander were lethal. Worn on the right side of the body, dirks were considered part of the Scotsman’s honor and would never have been used for mundane tasks like gutting fish or skinning hunting prey. Before battle the Scottish warrior would kiss the blade of his Dirk for luck. It is also a long standing custom that at a Celtic wedding, the Groom makes the first cut of the wedding cake with his Dirk!
